The Application of Artificial Intelligence in Biomedical Research from the Engineering Perspective

October 23, 2020 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

| Free

Please join us for the fifth UMaine Medicine Fall 2020 Seminar. This seminar series will take place every Friday, 3:00 – 4:00 pm from September 25 through November 13.

Speaker:  Somayeh Khosroazad, PhD, Postdoctoral Scholar, Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering

Dr. Khosroazad received B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in electrical engineering from Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, Mashhad, Iran, in 2006 and 2009, respectively, and a Ph.D. from University of Birjand, Birjand, Iran, in 2017. She is currently the Post-Doctoral Research Fellow with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Maine.

This talk explains the processing algorithms of extracting useful features from sleep signals recorded by SleepMoveTM device which is a wireless device commercialized by Activas-Diagnostics. The information that is extracted from this device during sleep has been determined to be associated with two parameters: movement arousals and respiratory frequency. The designed AI-based processing algorithm will be discussed as a practical example that shows how a combination of engineering knowledge, AI techniques and psychological science can help the world for a better life.
