UMaine–USM Partnership Advances Innovative Biomedical Research
The University of Maine and the University of Southern Maine have launched a new pilot research partnership through the Institute of Medicine to strengthen biomedical and health-related research capacity across both campuses. Through this program, USM faculty members are selected as research fellows and paired with UMaine teams to collaborate on innovative, high-impact projects. Current fellowship work includes advancing cancer-imaging technologies, improving understanding of mosquito-borne disease transmission, and developing composite materials with potential medical applications. The partnership creates new opportunities for cross-campus collaboration, student involvement, and interdisciplinary research growth in Maine.
