Message from the Director March 20, 2020
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
We at the Lobster Institute hope you are all safe and healthy during these uncertain and difficult times.
As we all work together to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the health of our friends and community is our top priority. As you may know, the University of Maine has mandated that its staff, students and faculty work and learn remotely as much as possible for the foreseeable future.
Meanwhile, the Lobster Institute continues its work to address the needs of the lobster industry as best it can. Our staff will continue to have meetings as needed via phone or video conferencing. We are still taking your phone calls, receiving email and, continuing our research as the situation permits. Our Associate Faculty are still active, engaged, and working as hard as ever on your behalf.
As the pandemic evolves daily, we are becoming acutely aware of its dire implications for our thriving coastal economy. We will use our website, lobsterinstitute.org, to provide the lobster industry in the US and Canada with useful information during this crisis, such as,
- Government and local assistance programs,
- A round up of news on the impact of the pandemic to the lobster industry.
We welcome your suggestions on how we can be helpful. If you have useful tips or comments to share; if you want information on Lobster Institute activities; if you want to support our work, or if you just want to share how this crisis is affecting you, your business or family, please feel free to contact us by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phone 207-581-1443
Be safe and take steps to protect yourselves, your family, and your community in the days ahead.
Wishing you the best,
Richard A. Wahle, Director
