Maine Day of Giving 2021

During the recent Maine Day of Giving (27 April 2021), Judaic Studies received generous gifts from seventeen donors. Together they contributed a total of $14,059 to support Judaic Studies here at the state’s research university.

Of this total, $9,973 was contributed to the Norman Minsky Judaic Studies Fund. Generously endowed by Mr. Minsky, this Fund supports the academic program in Judaic Studies. Every year we offer four courses: Beginning Modern Hebrew I and II, Introduction to Judaism, and Jewish History and Antisemitism from Antiquity to the Founding of the State of Israel. Without the Minsky Fund, these important and unique courses would not be offered. Full details about the academic minor in Judaic Studies can be found here: https://umaine.edu/judaicstudies/academics/.

The remaining $4086 was contributed to the Judaic Studies Fund. Begun this year, this new fund supports professional development for our faculty, invited speakers, special events, and travel for faculty and students to conferences, etc. While it does not have the most descriptive name currently (we are working on a better one!) it adds greatly to our program by helping our students and faculty develop their skills and enabling us to bring exciting programming to the local Jewish community.

Thank you all for your generous support!

As we cautiously step out of pandemic restrictions, I look forward to seeing you at an event on campus soon. You can find information about our events on Facebook (@UMaineJudaicStudies), Twitter (@JudaicUMaine), Instagram (@UMaineJudaicStudies), and on our website https://umaine.edu/judaicstudies/.

Sincerely,
