History
The Foster Center for Student Innovation is where UMaine students go for all their innovation and business needs. The center, which was built in 2006, was named after UMaine alumni Bion (’68) and Dorain (’68) H. Foster, in honor of their generous bequest to the university.
In April of 2007, the U.S. Green Building Council awarded Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver Rating to the Center.
The building’s architects, Oak Point Associates, also received a citation of excellence in green building from the American School Board Journal, and the center was recognized as one of the top new educational facilities in the country. The building was recently awarded the AIA Maine’s Merit Award for architecture as well as a Citation award from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Committee on Architecture for Education (CAE) for this year’s CAE Educational Facility Design Awards.
