HTY 599-0002: Special Topics in History: Approaches to Global History

Instructor: Gabriel Paquette

Days/Times: Mon, 5:10-7pm

Location: S310

Course Number: 44828

Description: This graduate seminar introduces students to contemporary historians whose books have sought to uncover, describe, and understand the often far-flung connections, webs, and networks that have linked, and in turn shaped, the world since c. 1500. Students will become familiar with the range and diversity of interactions and processes now viewed through the lens of global history. The uneasy relationship of global history to related approaches to the past, including transnational, international, comparative, and imperial history, is a focus of the seminar. While all approaches and methods are considered, the seminar will be of particular relevance to those interested in intellectual, political, and cultural history. Latin American History and historiography feature prominently.

Prerequisites & Notes:  Graduate students, senior history majors and others by permission.
