Description:  The Indian Ocean has been central to global trade for millennia. This course tracks broad themes in the history of the people and places touched by its waters. Four thematic units provide a reaching introduction to the movement of people, goods, and ideas across the basin. Using primary sources in translation, brief excerpts from scholarly literature, and lively online discussion, students will engage with core interpretive questions animating the study of Indian Ocean history.
