Paul A. Kramer is an associate professor of history at Vanderbilt University; he specializes in U.S. international history. He has authored dozens of articles published in leading academic journals as well as in Foreign Affairs, The New Republic, and The New York Times. His book, The Blood of Government: Race, Empire, the United States and the Philippines (Chapel Hill: University of North Carolina Press, 2006), won numerous awards. For this talk, he will draw from his new book Transnationalizing Modern U.S. History (under contract at Oxford University Press).
