Graduate Faculty Mentor Awards

Introduction: 

The Graduate Faculty Mentor Awards are given each year to outstanding mentors of graduate students in each of the University of Maine’s five colleges: Maine Business School; College of Education and Human Development; College of Engineering; College of Liberal Arts and Sciences; and College of Earth, Life, and Health Sciences. This is an opportunity for graduate students to help recognize someone who has been an excellent mentor to them. 

Nomination: 

To nominate your mentor, please mention how your mentor has assisted you in progress through your graduate studies/life at UMaine.

Some relevant examples, such as;

  • Provide excellent academic and research advice/support  
  • Offer time, advice, encouragement, or resources above and beyond expectations
  • Assist graduate students in personal or professional development.

Graduate students may nominate any mentor within their college for consideration. While only one letter may be submitted per nominator, a faculty member may be nominated multiple times by different students.

Instructions: 

To nominate your mentor, the following application form shall be completed along with a nomination letter nominating your mentor.

The nomination letter shall be a PDF file with the name as follows FirstName_LastName_AwardName. The nomination letter shall contain the award name, the name of your faculty mentor, and your name as the header. Please restrict to a maximum word limit of 500 words for your letter.

Selection process: 

The Graduate Student Government Awards Committee will be solely responsible for the selection of nominees. The selected nominees will then be approved by the Graduate School.

Your nomination letter shall entirely be utilized to appraise your application.

Awards: 

A gift card worth $50, and a certificate from the Graduate Student Government

The awardees will be notified via e-mail and the awards will be given during the awards ceremony during UMSS24.

Please apply by Friday, March 22nd, 2024 at 5:00 pm.
