Program/Department: Graduate School of Biomedical Science and Engineering

Why did you decide to become a GSG senator?: I decided to become a GSG senator to be a strong voice for STEM graduate students, particularly those in biomedical science and engineering. Our field faces specific challenges, such as long research hours, complex funding structures, and rapidly evolving technologies. I aim to ensure our concerns are heard and addressed at the institutional level.

How would you best serve your constituents?: As a biomedical science student, I recognize the importance of bridging the gap between scientific research and effective advocacy. Becoming a GSG senator allows me to leverage my technical knowledge while developing crucial leadership and communication skills that are vital in today’s interdisciplinary scientific landscape. My goal is to work towards improving research support and resources for our graduate students.

Please tell us about your research or some fun facts about you: I study brown adipose tissue, which is a unique type of fat tissue that burns calories and produces heat through a process called thermogenesis, During this process, it breaks down sugar and fat molecules from circulation, helping improve metabolic health.

How do you plan on communicating with your constituents?: My background in biotechnology has shown me the power of interdisciplinary collaboration. As a GSG senator, I hope to create more opportunities for cross-departmental interactions, benefiting not only STEM students but the entire graduate community through the exchange of diverse perspectives and methodologies.
