Financial Services Advisor GA Position
The Student Financial Aid Office and Bursar’s Office is searching for qualified applicants to fill Graduate Assistantship positions as Financial Services Advisors. The start date is Fall 2023.
What would you do as a Financial Services Advisor?
Your primary responsibility is student service focused; developing knowledge and skills to advise students, parents, and the general public on various aspects of financial aid and Bursar’s Office functions. Advisors interact with individual students to answer their questions and help them through the financial aid and billing process. This position would also assist with managing the front desk and advisor appointment system for the Office of Student Financial Services. You will receive excellent on the job training in financial aid and student billing preparing you to review aid applications, determine eligibility, award financial aid, reading students bills, relaying information about financial policies and procedures, answering questions about amounts billed, processing of payments, issues with refunds, student health insurance, while working in a highly computerized environment.
Who can apply?
Applicants must be admitted to an UMaine graduate degree program. Due to funding, you must be eligible for Federal Work-Study (if you are not sure about your eligibility, please contact us). Candidates with excellent communication skills and demonstrated experience in working with students, parents, the campus community and/or the general public are encouraged to apply. Quantitative skills and accuracy are important in our work. Computer experience with MaineStreet, Perceptive Content, Microsoft Word, and/or Microsoft Excel welcomed.
What does it pay?
The appointment carries a monthly stipend, plus a tuition waiver for up to 9 graduate credits (tuition only) per semester, and up to 6 graduate credits during the Summer Term. This is a 12-month, year-round position, requiring a commitment of 20 hours per week during the student service office hours of 8:30 – 4:30 Monday – Friday.
