Graduate School announces plans for the 2021 Graduate Commencement ceremony

Given the nature of current guidelines from the State of Maine, the University will be moving forward with virtual ceremonies combined with socially distanced in-person components. In that regard, no guests will be present during any on-campus recordings and negative COVID test results will be required for graduates to participate on-campus.

More information can be found on the Graduate Commencement website, but here is a quick synopsis:

Virtual Commencement
Graduates will have the option to participate in UMaine’s virtual commencement ceremony where they will report in regalia and masked at a prescheduled date and time to process across the stage at the Collins Center for the Arts. Graduates will be recorded as they cross the stage to get their diploma jacket and picture taken.

All graduates will have the opportunity to submit a photograph to be included in the virtual commencement ceremony regardless of their participation in-person. More information about photo submissions will be available soon.

Virtual Hooding
The Graduate School will coordinate Zoom hooding sessions by Academic Unit the week of April 26. Graduates will appear on-screen as their name is read and have 1-2 individuals of their choosing hood them. The hooding sessions will be recorded and compiled into videos by College to enjoy with your family and friends.

The Graduate School understands the importance of this monumental occasion and is finding ways to safely celebrate your accomplishments.
