General Education Assessment Graduate Assistantship Available: 2024-2025 Academic Year

The Office of Institutional Research and Assessment (OIRA) is searching for a General
Education Assessment Graduate Assistant for the 2024-2025 academic year. The scope of
OIRA’s work includes:

  • Collecting, maintaining, and analyzing information that informs decisions and
    policy making at the University of Maine, as well as conducting research on
    questions of fundamental importance to the institution.
  • Complying with the reporting requirements of external agencies and, further,
    responding to special requests for information from the campus community and
    public.
  • Assisting faculty with planning and implementing program and General
    Education assessment activities.

Responsibilities: The graduate assistant, who will report to OIRA, will assist with the following
tasks:

  • Assisting with the coordination and scheduling of general education assessment
  • meetings.
  • Designing and maintaining a resource/training website.
  • Reviewing current best practices in post­-secondary general education assessment.
  • Identifying supporting materials for general education assessment training sessions.
  • Assisting in the preparation of general education assessment training.
  • Developing the knowledge and skills to guide faculty members to appropriate general
  • education assessment­ related resources and support.
  • Preparing and proofreading reports.
  • Entering and managing general education assessment data as needed.
  • Analyzing and communicating data from the general education assessment process.

Additional responsibilities will be assigned according to the needs of the general education assessment project as well as the interest and expertise of the Graduate Assistant.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be admitted to a UMaine graduate degree program (Master’s or PhD) and
  • enrolled full­-time.
  • Candidates with excellent communication skills and who demonstrate interest/experience
  • in assessment and working with faculty are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience building and maintaining websites preferred.
  • Quantitative skills and accuracy are important. Computer experience with Google Suite,
  • Microsoft Office, and/or Microsoft Excel preferred.

Stipend & Benefits:
The academic year stipend will be $17,000, plus tuition for 9 credits per semester. This
is a 9-month academic year position, requiring a commitment of 20 hours per week
during regular office hours. Students are not expected to work when classes are not in
session during the regular academic year. GAs who enroll in the GA student health insurance receive 50% of the cost.
