Leah Cingranelli receives Dr. Susan J. Hunter Presidential Research Impact Award

Congratulations to Leah Cingranelli for receiving this year’s Dr. Susan J. Hunter Presidential Graduate Research Impact Award at the UMaine Student Symposium! Thanks for representing HEAL and our program so well!

Leah’s project was titled “Lifetime Trauma as a Risk Mechanism for Hazardous Cannabis Use in LGBTQIA+ Young Adults.” Findings revealed that, although LGBTQIA+ and cis-heterosexual UMO college students reported similar cannabis use behaviors, lifetime traumatic experiences emerged as a novel risk factor for LGBTQIA+ students. Leah’s project was selected for exemplifying the university’s mission of integrating research and service to the Maine community, given implications for tailored intervention development. They will also be presenting these findings at the College on Problems of Drug Dependence annual meeting this June in Montreal, Quebec.
