Tick Response

Tick Response is an additional study beginning in 2021 under the Maine Forest Tick Survey

In addition to our ongoing citizen science project, we are seeking landowners and managers that are planning timber harvests or large scale (1 acre+) invasive plant removal within the next three years. We plan to survey properties for ticks before and after management activities take place. We will sample these properties for ticks in July before the management activity, as well as July the following year to understand the short-term impact of forest management on tick abundance. We will do all the work involved in collecting ticks, identifying them to species, and then report the results back to you. Participants will fill out a survey detailing what types of management were conducted on the property. Participating in this study will help us better understand how land management impacts ticks and tick-borne pathogens. We are seeking land with planned upcoming management activities between 2021 and 2024 in the following counties: Androscoggin, Cumberland, Hancock, Knox, Kennebec, Lincoln, Sagadahoc, Waldo, and York Counties. If you would like to have your property included in this study, please fill out the following form with your information.
