Catharine Biddle and Jen Bonnet: Grant Writing for Your School and Classroom

In this workshop, participants will be introduced to potential funding sources for their schools and/or communities that they can pursue from their role as formal or informal leaders. The workshop will cover identifying funding sources, best practices for applying for external support, aligning your application with the opportunity, and will give participants time to get knowledgeable consulting as they work on an identified proposal. You do not need to have a funding opportunity in mind to participate, but please bring one if you have it!

Jen Bonnet is a proposal development associate for special projects in UMaine’s Office of Research Development. In this role, she works with researchers to find funding opportunities, identify potential collaborations and partnerships, draft various elements of grant proposals, and offer constructive feedback on proposals in development. Some of her strengths include creative problem solving, flexible, responsive, and impactful instruction, and scholarly communication expertise.

Catharine Biddle is an associate professor of educational leadership and director of the College of Education and Human Development’s Center for Applied Research on Education and Schools (CARES), where she also leads the Rural Thrive project. Dr. Biddle’s research focuses on ways in which rural schools and communities respond to social and economic change in the 21st century. She is particularly interested in how schools can more effectively leverage partnerships with external organizations or groups to address issues of social inequality and how non-traditional leaders—such as youth, parents and other community members—may lead or serve as partners in these efforts.
