College of Education and Human Development to host Maine Teacher of the Year presentations

Semifinalists for the 2019 Maine Teacher of the Year will present on their teaching philosophy and background on Monday, August 6 at Buchanan Alumni House.

The Maine Teacher of the Year program is administered by Educate Maine in partnership with the Maine Department of Education with support from the State Board of Education and Maine State Teacher of the Year Association.

In addition to the semifinalists’ presentations, the candidates will answer audience questions and meet with pre-service student teachers at the event, hosted by the University of Maine College of Education and Human Development. Associate Dean for Academic Services Mary Ellen Mahoney-O’Neil will give welcoming remarks.

Also speaking will be Maine’s 2018 Teacher of the Year, Kaitlin Young, a UMaine alumna and music teacher at SeDoMoCha School.

The 2019 Maine Teacher of the Year will be selected from the list of 2018 County Teachers of the Year, which can be found at the Maine Teacher of the Year website.
