Nigeria

Originally, I am from Enugwu-ukwu, a small town located in the southern region of Nigeria. Nigeria is a multiethnic nation with three groups forming the majority of her population and
these groups include the Igbos which is my tribe, the Yorubas and the Hausas. Nigeria is blessed with excessive talented man power and a lot of natural mineral resources which is not limited to crude oil, gold, limestone, coal and diverse cash crops; however, certain complex factors made the country to still remain among developing countries. Generally, we are among the most hardworking people on this planet and despite the gloomy exterior of the nation, we always find a way to radiate happiness. For those contemplating on visiting the country, there are many attractive tourist centers in Nigeria (http://www.travelstart.com.ng/blog/30-top-attractions-in-nigeria/) and there are also yearly festivals with the most prominent one being the Calabar Carnival, which like Rio de
Janeiro and Jamaican carnivals, attracts a lot of dignitaries and participants across the globe.

Meet Our Students

Chiduben is a first-year doctoral student in Chemistry department of the University of Maine. He studied Biochemistry as an undergraduate student at the University of Nigeria and went further to obtain a master’s degree in Pharmaceutical/Medicinal Chemistry at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (Nigeria). Currently, he is broadly interested in synthesis of organic molecules and their applications. He also enjoy learning R programming and its applications in statistical analysis. His hobbies include playing video games and working out as they help me to ease off stress and provide ephemeral disconnection from unending worldly challenges. He hopes to add more value and progress to the Chemistry department with his research works and contribute immensely to his community in city of Orono.
