Collegiate Leadership Competition (CLC)

The Collegiate Leadership Competition (CLC) is a high-impact, experiential leadership development initiative that provides students with an opportunity to develop real-world leadership skills, work collaboratively with other students, and engage with empirically-driven research on leadership and expertise.  Student participants meet throughout the spring semester with campus coaches to learn new leadership concepts and research, practice their team-building and communications skills with other team members, and sharpen their problem-solving abilities through rigorous exercises and activities. Students then have an opportunity to demonstrate their leadership capabilities at the regional CLC tournament.

CLC helps students in several core areas:

  • Develop Leadership Skills: Become a better leader, follower and team member. According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers, leadership, ability to work in a team, communication skills, and problem-solving skills are the top four attributes that organizations are seeking in college graduates. CLC’s curriculum was designed with participants in mind, and ensures that you are learning skills that will help set you apart professionally.

  • Build Your Resume: Participate in an experience that will help you better communicate the value you bring to an employer. CLC will help you stand out professionally by advancing your leadership skills and adding a valuable experience to your resume.

  • Grow Your Network: Connect with a community of students, coaches, and corporate and community leaders on campus and in your region.

  • Have Fun While Learning: The CLC curriculum is active, experiential and designed to build skill. Engage with innovative concepts, videos, practice outlines, and activities.

UMaine fielded its first CLC team in the 2017-2018 academic year, which culminated in their participation in New England Regional CLC Tournament at the University of Southern Maine in Portland on April 21, 2018.
