Sam Ladd
Sam Ladd graduated from Brunswick High School in 1959, before attending Bowdoin College where he graduated in 1963 (just 1 year behind Bill Cohen).
After a year in Hartford, CT working for Aetna Life Insurance, Sam joined the US Army having been commissioned a 2nd Lt. after taking ROTC at Bowdoin. He was stationed in Berlin, Germany for 2 years.
Sam had a long and successful banking career that started with Maine National Bank in Portland. He co-founded Maine Bank & Trust in 1991. After two bank mergers, he retired as the Maine President of People’s United Bank, headquartered in Bridgeport CT.
Mr. Ladd has served on the Boards of the Maine Bankers Association, Portland Symphony, Portland Museum of Art, University of Maine Law School Foundation, Gulf of Maine Research Institute, Maine Maritime Museum, Maine Historical Society, and as a Trustee of Bowdoin College. He was also the Finance Chair for Senator Susan M. Collins in her last 3 elections.
Sam was named citizen of the year by the Portland Chamber of Commerce, and is a member of the Junior Achievement Hall of Fame, a Distinguished honoree of the Pine Tree Council Boy Scouts, and elected to the Maine Sports Hall of Fame.
Sam Ladd now lives in Falmouth, Maine, and Naples, Florida.
