Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Academic Year Fellowships
Enrolled, full-time graduate students in academic departments or professional schools, who are US citizens or permanent residents, are eligible to apply. FLAS Fellowships are administered by the Canadian-American Center at UMaine, and are awarded on a merit basis through annual competitions. The recipient of a FLAS award receives tuition and a stipend: Academic Year (AY) FLAS: up to$18,000 tuition, $15,000 living stipend; and, Summer FLAS: up to $5,000 in tuition and $2500 living stipend.

Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Summer Awards
Summer FLAS awards are specific for language instruction, providing a grant to study French in a 6-week course.
Applications for Summer FLAS awards are submitted to the FLAS Coordinator: Dr. Frédéric Rondeau, Assistant Professor of French, Modern Languages and Classics, 5742 Little Hall, Room 201.

Canadian-American Center Fellowships
- Available to graduate students in all disciplines focusing on Canada or Canadian-American relations
- $13,600 Stipend, plus a tuition waiver, and 50% of health insurance covered
- Awards available to citizens of any country

New England-Atlantic Provinces-Québec Fellowships
- Available to graduate students engaged in cross-border research
- One fellowship is reserved for a graduate student in History
- $13,600 Stipend, plus a tuition waiver, and 50% of health insurance covered
- Awards available to citizens of any country
