Purpose
The primary purpose of this position is to oversee intramural sports at the Student Recreation and Fitness Center. Intramural Supervisors oversee intramural leagues including flag football, volleyball, basketball, softball, indoor soccer, and other activities. Supervisors are also responsible for overseeing and managing a safe and pleasant atmosphere for Intramural participants and for assisting the professional staff when needed. Attendance at all mandatory meetings for Supervisors and officials is also required.
Duties and Responsibilities
The responsibilities of this position include:
- Prepare fields and courts to make sure they are safe and ready for competition
- Facilitate opening and closing of play area
- Set up and break down each competition site to ensure proper start and end times.
- Train, evaluate, and develop student personnel
- Plan and implement tournaments, leagues, and special events
- Administer First Aid at intramural events
- Examine facilities for safety hazards
- Act as front-line customer service representative for intramurals
- Be well versed in the online platforms of SubItUp and IMLeagues
- Serve as a resource for officials and participants when it comes to scheduling, rules, and services
- Diffuse problems involving spectators, coaches, and/or players
- Evaluate officials
- Coordinate officials and scorekeepers assignments
- Check-in players for games
- Other Duties as assigned
As an intramural supervisor, you are expected to be a friendly, knowledgeable and courteous representative of the Intramural Program and Campus Recreation. We expect all employees to have a positive attitude, show up for work on time, dress professionally, and perform all assigned duties in a professional manner. In addition, we expect all employees to treat everyone with respect.
Job Requirements
- Previous experience in the intramural sports program as an official and/or scorekeeper
- Strong communication skills
- Thorough knowledge of Competitive Sports policies and procedures
- General knowledge of the rules and procedures for sports offered in the program
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Certification in First Aid/AED/CPR
- Required to be available for at least two shifts per week
- Dependability, responsibility, and punctuality
- Knowledge of, and/or interest in, recreation and fitness activities
- Enthusiasm, desire to learn, and desire to work as part of a team
- Ability to operate independently within departmental standards of conduct and professional expectations
- With proper training, awareness of risk management and safety concerns
- Awareness of and appreciation for individual uniqueness and diversity
- Sports officiating experience preferred
- Ability to work in adverse weather conditions
Pay Level: $15.15
* Work Study / Work Merit: Work Study – Optional
Time Commitment: Minimum 2 nights a week
Minimum Shift: 2 hours
Shift Days/Times: Weeknights (Monday – Thursday)
