Island Soundscape Project Announces New Work to Premiere
The Island Soundscape Project (isp) — a collaborative team including UMaine and UMaine-Machias faculty and staff — is pleased to announce the opening of Soundmarks, an immersive sound installation.
Soundmarks premieres at the Sedgwick First Baptist Church in Sedgwick village on Saturday, July 12 and run through Saturday, August 8, 2025. There will be an informal opening reception on July 12 from 4-6pm.

Soundmarks is a multi-channel sound piece, with speakers built into sculptures placed throughout the church. The work is based on recordings gathered at Maine Coast Heritage Trust preserves and is part of an ongoing collaboration.
The isp is comprised of N.B. Aldrich, Karen Beeftink, Adriana Cavalcanti, and Steve Norton, with project collaborators Eeshita Kapadiya and Elle Azul.
The Sedgwick First Baptist Church, at 35 High Street, Sedgwick, Maine will be open every day from sunrise until sunset. Soundmarks is presented thanks to the support of Maine Coast Heritage Trust and by kind invitation of the Sedgwick-Brooklin Historical Society to help celebrate their church restoration project.
