Catherine Mardosa

Catherine Mardosa is a Masters student in Anthropology and Environmental Policy. Originally from Central Maine, she left to attend Brown University, where she received a Bachelor of Arts in 2003. Questions about her community’s resilience and land use, along with her lifelong interest in food cultures, led her to start a small farm just outside of Providence, Rhode Island, which she ran for nearly twenty years. Produce was distributed through a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) Program, and through a grower’s cooperative she started with a group of other urban farmers. She has also run garden clubs and workshops in community gardens through the city’s Health Equity Zone initiative, and helped to develop an apprenticeship program in sustainable agriculture for the state of Rhode Island. Her interests include sustainable agriculture, cooperative structures, alternative economies, environmental justice, food, art and ecology.
