Program Benefits
In most cases yes! If you discover that you will not save, an opt-out option is readily available
This program allows students a predictable price of $239.99 which is substantially below the average estimated cost of $500 per semester at UMaine. This flat fee includes physical materials and allows a student to examine the course material before deciding to remain in the program.
How Do I Access My AMP Materials?
All textbooks, ebooks and courseware are all included in the price per semester. This charge is applied to Fall and Spring semesters only. Winter session, as well as summer session, course material is an additional charge and billed per individual course.
You will be able to access your digital course materials through Brightspace. To find the link to those materials, go into your class on Brightspace and click on “Tools” in the navbar at the top. From the dropdown menu click on AMP/Inclusive Access. That page will show you all your AMP course materials and describe if they are eBooks, print books or courseware. Any eBooks assigned to you will have a “read now” button. When you click the “read now” button you will be redirected to redeem your eBook. The eBook will be available in a digital bookshelf there for the length of the eBook duration. Any print books listed will be available for pick up in person at the bookstore with no additional fee. Courseware will either have a “launch courseware” button or depending on the courseware chosen, your instructor might have placed a separate link for you to click through under “Content”. If you do not have a launch courseware selection, consult your instructor for further directions.
Some courses include physical materials (lab manuals and selected print titles). These are included in the price and will be picked up at the bookstore. Your student dashboard in Brightspace will detail which course material is digital and which needs to be picked up.
Contact the University Bookstore and we will assist you with any questions or accommodations you may need.
Contact the University Bookstore for assistance in accessing materials or for questions about your courseware at um.bookstore@maine.edu.
Only required materials are included in the AMPed at UMaine program.
If a perpetual access license is chosen for the course, absolutely. Not all digital licenses are perpetual due to the cost; however, most publishers allow a student to obtain a perpetual license for materials for an additional charge. A perpetual license allows you to maintain access after the course ends.
Only when dropping a course within the add/drop period. After that, they are yours to keep!
There is no change in adopting course material for this program. A faculty member has the academic freedom to choose the best material to achieve positive learning outcomes for their students.
Yes – Any digital course material can be downloaded to 4 devices at one time (2 mobile devices and 2 desktop devices) and are then completely available for 100% offline access.
Program Participation
All undergraduate students at the University of Maine are enrolled in this program. They can choose to opt out before the add/drop date for each semester if they do not wish to participate.
No. Graduate students are not included in this program, they will continue to pay per class for their course materials.
Opting Out
To opt out of the program go into one of your classes on Brightspace. Click on “Tools” in the navbar at the top. Click on AMP/Inclusive Access in the drop down menu that appears. It will bring you to the page where you can see all your assigned course materials. At the top right of that page, click on the button that says, “opt out”. Once you click on that button you will be refunded on your student account for the AMP course material. You will lose access to all eBooks and courseware you were assigned for the semester. Any print books you already picked up before opting out will need to be returned to avoid being charged a replacement fee.
Opting out of this program means that you do not want access to all of your course materials for the $239.99 charge. Opting out will remove access to the digital content and will require any printed material to be returned to the bookstore. It will mean a student will need to obtain any course material on an individual course basis.
If your chosen course material is less than $239.99 for all combined courses the best action would be to opt-out and buy the course material on an individual basis. Course material can be analyzed on the bookstore website on a course-by-course basis. This option is best used for part-time students and certain majors with a low volume of required course material. (The bookstore is happy to help determine if the program is right for you!)
Due to the overall program savings of the one-time charge, a partial opt-out of UMaine AMPed is not possible.
You must choose to opt-out within the add/drop period of each semester.
If you opt out of the program you can search any number of sources for your course materials including the bookstore website at https://bookstore.umaine.edu/adoption-search. You will pay per title with standard forms of payment such as credit or debit cards.
