How It Works

What does AMP stand for?

Academic Material Program

AMP at UMaine is a course material delivery program that provides students access to all required course materials each semester.  The program provides an equitable as well as affordable ($239.99 per semester) avenue for students to gain access to their course material on the first day of class.  The program also allows faculty to retain the academic freedom to choose the course material best suited for their student’s success without concern for the cost to the student.

The program is administered by the University Bookstore featuring digital course materials, where possible, delivered directly to a student’s Brightspace course shell by the first day of classes.  Physical materials such as lab manuals, kits, and paper textbooks are also included in the program and will be picked up at the University Bookstore in Memorial Union.

All enrolled students are billed directly on their student account for the course material in July for the fall semester and December for the spring semester.  The student does have the ability to OPT OUT until the add/drop period is closed, typically the first week of class.  If opting out the charge automatically is removed from the student account.

UMaine Academic Materials Program (AMP) Benefits

Student Benefits

  • Accessibility: Students will be prepared to begin courses on the first day of class with materials provided directly to their Brightspace account.
  • Affordability: We are able to ensure a low flat rate to reduce the overall cost of course materials for all students,  compared to the textbook marketplace.
  • Convenience: Students are provided access to all course material on their Brightspace account.  Eliminating the need to access multiple retail outlets and guaranteeing the correct course material is obtained for every course.

Faculty Benefits

  • Easy course material delivery: Using digital-first methods ensures that students are ready to engage on the first day of class. All non-digital materials can be picked up directly at the University Bookstore.
  • Retaining academic freedom: Faculty have full academic freedom to choose the material they want for their class without the barrier of price for their students.
