The University of Maine Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders offers the only academic major in Speech-Language Pathology in the state of Maine. The Master’s Degree program is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). A major component of the graduate program is the department’s on-site clinical training facility, the Madelyn E. and Albert D. Conley Speech, Language and Hearing Center.

Within our center, faculty scholars work with graduate students to provide evaluations, treatment, and preventative screenings for children and adults with communication disorders. Areas of faculty expertise include: articulation and language disorders, aphasia neurolinguistics, autism spectrum disorders, hearing impairment, cognitive neuroscience, swallowing and motor speech disorders, fluency disorders, voice disorders, developmental dyslexia, and speech therapy telepractice service delivery and professional preparation.
