The Forest Products Laboratory (FPL) is a research station of the U.S. Department of Agriculture which specializes in the research and development of agriculturally based materials. Their recent research includes advanced composites and structures, nanotechnology, forest biorefinery and forest mycology. FPL offers access to their laboratories and equipment to their partners to aid them in their projects. Over the years, FPL has obtained hundreds of patents for their technologies.
The PDC began a joint venture agreement with FPL in April of 2012 to pursue branchs of nanocellulose technology. FPL has recently opened a pilot-scale demonstration facility for nanocellulose and, as of early April 2013, the PDC’s own nanofibril pilot plant is operational and producing materials.
