UMaine Hosting Freedom Salute Ceremony Today

ORONO — Members of the UMaine and surrounding communities are invited to join Maine Gov. Paul LePage and U.S. Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins today at 2 p.m. in the Collins Center for the Arts to honor and welcome home from the Middle East 152 Maine Army National Guard members of the Brewer-based Company B, 3rd Battalion 172nd Infantry Regiment. Maine’s Army National Guard, 52nd Troop Command, is sponsoring the Freedom Salute Ceremony. Maine’s Adjutant General Major Gen. John W. Libby, among other dignitaries, will offer brief remarks. According to Executive Officer Lt. Col. James Campbell, all 152 soldiers are returning safely, although some were injured. Members of UMaine’s Army ROTC will assist in the ceremony. There is no cost to attend.
