The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT): Secondary Education Graduate Pathway

Available On Campus and as a Blended Online Program

The Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT): Secondary Education is an accelerated teacher licensure program that prepares students for initial teacher certification. The program offers secondary school (grades 6–12) concentrations in English, Social Studies, Life Science, Physical Science, Math, and Foreign Languages.

This program is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).

Format

The MAT is a blended program with a low residency requirement. Although students may be required to come to campus in Orono, ME, most MAT classes are held online.

In-school placements and student-teaching practicums typically occur within the surrounding areas of Orono, ME, or Portland, ME, with mentor teachers and faculty supervision. However, accommodations can be made for students who need placements at other locations in Maine.
