The Self-Designed track is an interdisciplinary program of study built around your unique goals and interests. The Self-Designed track’s curriculum is for anyone wanting to:

  • Fulfill personal goals
  • Facilitate a career change
  • Promote career advancement
  • Prepare for graduate studies
  • Or satisfy their love for learning

You’ll work one-on-one with an advisor to ensure your program of study meets your academic interests and the degree requirements.

Curriculum

The Self-Designed track is 24 of the 120 credits required for the Bachelor of University Studies.  

Throughout the program, you’ll work closely with an advisor to create a custom program of study based on your professional background, goals, and prior academic work.

In addition to the UMaine general education requirements, the following courses are required (7 credits):

  • UST 100: Introduction to the Bachelor of University Studies (1 credit)*
    Six-week course
  • UST 300: Core Course in University Studies (3 credits)*
    Meets upper-level Writing Intensive General Education requirement 
  • UST 499: Senior Capstone (3 credits)*
    Meets General Education Capstone requirement

  • NOTE: You must earn a “C” or better in all UST classes to graduate.
