Food Recovery at UMaine (Ongoing)Americorps members and dining staff at Hilltop Dining

MPES has partnered with the UMaine Green Team to recover leftover food from UMaine dining. Each week, excess food from Hilltop Dining is collected and delivered the The Shaw House, a non-profit providing programs and services to homeless and at-risk youth in the Bangor, ME area. Build-A-Solar-Cellphone-Charger: (Thurs. March 22nd and Wed. March 28th)

Interested in learning how to harvest the sun’s power? Look no further! The Office of Sustainability will be holding two solar cellphone charger building workshops in March to teach students, faculty, or staff about clean energy solutions. The best part? Take home your own solar cellphone charger.

 Green Jobs Forum: (April 14th, 12 to 3 pm)

UMaine’s Office of Sustainability and UMA-Bangor’s Office of Student life are holding a Green Jobs Forum. If you are looking for career, internship, or volunteer opportunities in the environmental sector, this event is for you! Don’t have a college degree? This isn’t a problem, as we will have several employers offering positions that don’t require a college degree. Employers include: ReVision Energy, Maine Energy Marketers, One Lupine, and many more! Light and local refreshments will be provided.

Earth Day Festival: (April 21st, 12 to 2 pm)

UMaine’s Office of Sustainability, UMA-Bangor’s Office of Student Life, and Transportation for All are throwing an Earth Day Festival as part of Earth Week! This zero-waste event will feature fun and educational activities for everyone from kids to adults. Activities include: electric vehicle test rides, make-your-own seed bombs, a clothing exchange, and tons of local treats. Experts in the energy field will be present to teach participants about energy efficiency and clean energy in Maine.

When: April 21st, 12 pm to 2 pm
How to get there: Celebrate Earth Day by taking public transportation! Take any Community Connector bus (EXCEPT the Black Bear Express or Mall Hopper) to the Bangor Depot, which is located at the Pickering Square parking garage. Rides are free to anyone with a MaineCard, and we’re offering bus ticket reimbursements to all others.
