Abstract:
This research was conducted by the Maine Education Policy Research Institute (MEPRI) at the request of the Maine State Legislature’s Joint Standing Committee on Education and Cultural Affairs. The impetus for this study is the continuing state and national challenge of educator recruitment and staffing shortages in the PK-12 teaching profession, and the need to better understand the reasons undergraduate students may choose to pursue an education degree and career or not.
