Getting the Conversation Started: STEM and WGS/Disability Studies

This roundtable discussion features four faculty members from STEM-related fields including Dr. Penny Reigns, Dr. Katie Glover, Julia McGuire and Jacqueline Gill. Along with faculty member Elizabeth Neiman from the Department of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, with Dr. Gilson & Liz Depoy from Disability Studies and Social Work! The discussion will feature questions such as:
- Differences amongst STEM fields in awareness of/interest in feminist and/or gender-related methods of inquiry and content
- The degree to which STEM students may be hungry for thinking about gender and other identities as they may intersect with scientific methods/research
- The question of what feminist/gender/queer/post-humanist methods of analysis bring to scientific research
- How to build more of a bridge between STEM fields and WGS and Disability Studies (plus other related fields) here at UMaine
