The Maine Physical Science Partnership (MainePSP) and the Maine Center for Research in STEM Education (RiSE Center) at the University of Maine, in collaboration with the Penobscot River Education Partnership and the Southern Maine Partnership, will host an effective education conference on January 24, 2015, 12:00pm – 3:00pm at the University of Maine in Orono on Developing Assessment Literacy, A Pathway to Teacher Effectiveness and Proficiency-Based Learning .
The primary goals of the conference are to build collective understanding of the importance of developing assessment literacy, especially in response to Educator Effectiveness and Proficiency-Based Learning legislation, and to inform professional development efforts for strengthening assessment literacy. Breakout sessions will focus on the Key Qualities of Assessment from the Assessment Training Institute (Why Assess?, Assess What?, Assess How? or Communicate How?). These sessions will appeal to a wide range of participants, including the science education community (K-12 and University), school administrators and interested teachers from other disciplines. We are expecting 100-150 attendees, and workshop sizes will likely be 20-50 people.
