Strategic Re-Envisioning Update — June 12

Dear University of Maine and University of Maine at Machias colleagues,

Last week we engaged the University of Maine Board of Visitors (BOV) in a discussion about our Strategic Re-Envisioning initiative. The BOV serve in an advisory capacity on a wide range of issues regarding the university’s role and mission as well as its relationship to the people of Maine. It consists of a number of accomplished UMaine alums in positions of leadership in Maine and beyond who serve as public advocates for the university. Their input is incredibly valuable to this process and I thank them for engaging with us in this productive discussion.

Engaging constituents from across the university who serve in a number of capacities has been one of the primary goals of this process. Each time we host one of these reflective exercises, I receive helpful and insightful feedback that will inform our process.

We are currently working on a document of the BOV discussion similar to the town hall summary I shared last week. As a reminder, the town hall summary is available on the Strategic Re-Envisioning website. I will share an update when the BOV discussion document becomes available.

Provost Volin, Vice President for Finance and Administration and Chief Business Officer Kelly Sparks, and their teams are working on reviewing the applications for Provost’s Fellows and the Project Director position. Last week they also shared a call for two additional Provost’s Fellows positions specifically for UMaine staff. I encourage you to review the information about these positions, which you can find here. Candidates should submit a 1-page cover letter and a CV to Dianne Avery (diannea@maine.edu) by end of day today.

Thank you again for your attention to this important process. I look forward to sharing more with you throughout the summer as we continue to make progress on this initiative.

Sincerely,

Joan Ferrini-Mundy
President
