Washington, DC Internship Expanding
We have some news to share about an exciting expansion and improvement to our UMaine internship program in Washington DC. Since 1958, about 4-5 UMaine students have been working on Capitol Hill each spring semester, typically in the offices of the Maine congressional delegation.
These internships have led to countless career opportunities for our students. Starting Spring 2025, we will be significantly expanding the number of students in the program and also adding opportunities to work in other types of Washington DC offices, such as executive branch departments, non-governmental and international organizations, lobbying/policy advocacy firms, and other types of organizations. Of course, internship opportunities in Congress will continue to be part of our offerings. During the program we will be holding informative bi-weekly seminar meetings, often with expert guest speakers from the DC political community.
We will also be making some improvements to our student housing in DC. UMaine will be leasing apartment space that is conveniently situated in DC so that students will no longer have to find their own housing. And the best part: UMaine students will be able to participate in the program for the same cost as living on campus! We’re able to make these changes due to some very generous financial gifts we’ve received from UMaine alumni who appreciate the dramatic educational and career benefits that Washington DC internships provide.
As always, students will earn a full semester worth of course credits for completion of the program.
We will have full details about the program, including application instructions, in the fall semester.
