Moose

Pay attention. Moose may be large, but they are also able to keep hidden very well.
If you approach a moose in a car, do not drive away quickly. Maine experiences about 600 moose crashes, annually. Moose can run very quickly and can run out onto the road. Make sure to slow down, don’t drive around the moose, and stay in your car.

Moose are very territorial and will feel threatened if yourself or pets approach too close, and this could lead them to charge. Make sure to give moose plenty of space. Some physical warning signs that a moose may become aggressive include: Lowering their head, hair standing up on the neck, or puffing air out of their nose while making eye contact.

If a moose decides to charge you for whatever reason, make sure to hide behind something sturdy, such as a large tree, vehicle, boulder, etc. This will help to protect you from a charge.

If a moose knocks you down, make sure to curl into a ball and protect your head and extremities. Try to lie still until the moose retreats, then assess the damages.
