UMaine offering several professional development opportunities in spring
The University of Maine Division of Lifelong Learning is offering several opportunities for professional development this spring, both online and in person. A certificate of completion and Continuing Education Units will be available.
The following programs are online and have synchronous meeting times:
- Foundations in Restorative Practices with Hanlon Kelley-Dillard and Sarah Dyer of the Restorative Justice Project will run March 6-7, April 3, May 1-2 and June 27 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Learn how to create spaces where people feel seen, heard and part of a community that cares.
- Helping People Change: The Power of Group Work with Wendy Satin Rapaport, a social worker, clinical psychologist and UMaine adjunct professor, will be held May 2 from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Use groups to create community and increase connection and productivity.
- Intimate Partner/Domestic Violence Training with Lori Rodriguez, domestic violence resource center advocate with New Hope Midcoast, will run March 5-6 from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Prepare to work with people who have experienced and perpetrated domestic abuse and violence. This program meets the 2020 domestic violence training requirements for psychologists, licensed clinical social workers and licensed clinical professional counselors.
The following program will meet in person:
- Practical Public Speaking: From Fear to Success with Tom Dowd, an award winning speaker and best selling author, will be held May 16 from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Learn how to communicate effectively and motivate your audience. This program will be offered in person at the University of Maine at Augusta. Oral Communication badges are available after completion of this program.

A limited number of need based scholarships are available. University of Maine System employees can also apply for Maine Workforce Development Compact Funding.
