Maine Athletics, New Balance announce new seven-year agreement
The University of Maine has entered a new seven-year agreement with New Balance Athletics, the official footwear and apparel provider for the Black Bears. The agreement continues the commitment by New Balance to provide uniforms, apparel, accessories and footwear to Maine’s 17 varsity programs.
New Balance also recently announced its continued commitment to the Black Bears through a $7 million gift to support the construction of a state-of-the-art New Balance Track & Field and Soccer Complex. It is the second major gift made by New Balance to Maine Athletics, following the $5 million commitment in 2011 to support renovations to the New Balance Field House and aid in the development of the New Balance Student Recreation and Fitness Center.
Support from New Balance has significantly advanced the university’s fundraising campaign to meet the challenge grant for Maine Athletics, as part of the UMS TRANSFORMS initiative funded by the historic $320 million investment from the Harold Alfond Foundation. For the challenge grant, the University of Maine System is leveraging the foundation’s transformative gift to secure an additional $170 million in matching funds from state, federal and private sources like New Balance.
