News Center Maine hosts garden talk with Extension’s Hargest

During a News Center Maine segment titled “Gardening with Gutner,” University of Maine Cooperative Extension horticulture specialist Pamela Hargest gave tips on how to prepare gardens for planting this spring. Hargest said soil testing is very important and testing kits can be obtained from and sent back to any local UMaine Extension office. Otherwise, she said all-purpose soil from a garden center will work. She also recommended people wait until temperatures are consistently above 60 degrees Fahrenheit before refurbishing perennial gardens.
