WFVX talks to Fanning on importance of pollination for ‘No Mow May’

For a segment about “No Mow May,” Philip Fanning, a University of Maine assistant professor of agricultural entomology, said in an interview with WFVX (Fox 22/ABC 7 in Bangor) that generally speaking, a third of the food humans have to eat is made available because of pollinators. The city of Bangor is encouraging people to participate in “No Mow May” and allow their grass to grow for pollinators to have plenty of access to plants. If ticks are a concern, Fanning encouraged people to mow a portion of their yard and leave the rest for pollinators.
