Astronomy Center hosting new event for Minecraft lovers May 11
The University of Maine Versant Power Astronomy Center is hosting a new family event in partnership What-If Hypothetical Implementations in Minecraft (WHIMC). This immersive astronomy experience, scheduled for Saturday, May 11 from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., is designed for children ages 8-14 years old and offers engagement for parents and guardians.
Tickets include access to a three part rotation of activities: a viewing of “Worlds of Curiosity” followed by a discussion about the universe; a tour of the PlaneWave CDK20 telescope and antique Alvin Clark refractor in the Maynard F. Jordan Observatory; and use of the astronomy center’s laptops, which feature a new Lunar Build Map, to build in Minecraft and design their own Hypothetical What-If World.
Saturday’s event is different from the astronomy center’s weeklong WHIMC camps.
Purchase tickets online and find additional information on the WHIMC website.
