Erdley featured by Harpswell Anchor in story on social media use
The Harpswell Anchor interviewed University of Maine professor of psychology Cynthia Erdley on problems associated with social media use in K-12 students, a current discussion happening among the Maine School Administrative District 75 Board of Directors. Erdley said studies have shown correlation between smartphone usage among adolescents, particularly girls, and increased depression and suicide risk. Banning phones, however, tends to not work, she said, and proposed a peer-focused solution that would allow younger social media users to learn responsible online practices from older kids with more social media experience. The Times Record shared the news report.
