Culturefest to be held Oct. 23

The University of Maine Office of International Programs and International Student Association will host its annual celebration of cultures from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Oct. 23 under a large tent on the Mall. The 34th Culturefest will feature prepackaged international snacks, cultural exhibits, children’s activities, a style show and performances.

The family-friendly event, which is free and open to the public, is an opportunity for the university’s international students to showcase their talents and traditions.

This year, more than 25 countries will be represented by over 75 participants. Other campus groups will also participate, including the Asian Student Association, South Asisan Student Association, African Student Association and Chinese Student and Scholar Association. More information is online

“We hope that members of the campus and surrounding communities will stop by and show their support for this long-standing event,” says Sarah Joughin, senior associate director for UMaine’s Office of International Programs.
