We all know that this year is going to be a little different, however, the Office of International Programs is still committed to hosting a Culturefest this year. Since we cannot host an in-person event we will create an interactive website with a professional look that will vividly convey the stories of our international students’ experiences at UMaine and allow students to share their cultures and traditions through a variety of multimedia platforms.
How it Works:
Student groups can sign up for a page on our Culturefest website where they can share a variety of information about their countries or cultures. Examples of work that can be shared are: recipes of traditional foods, poetry, readings of childrens’ stories or pictures and stories of your life back home. Each group will also be eligible to sign up to do a professional photo shoot to show off your cultural clothing and groups can sign up to work closely with a professional photo-journalist who will guide you through production of a multimedia project. We are open to all kinds of ideas so feel free to come up with something on your own as well. The idea is to make it very personal to our students rather than just showing stock internet photos.
How to Participate:
Groups should sign up via the form on our website. Professional photo shoots and availability of photo-journalist may be limited so groups who sign up early will have a greater chance to take advantage of these resources.

Each fall the Office of International Programs and the International Student Association host a day-long celebration of cultures with country/culture exhibits, food court, children’s activities and live demonstrations, and a traditional style show. This event is FREE and open to the public at the New Balance Student Recreation Center, University of Maine, Orono. For more information call 207-581-3437.
