Press Herald highlights UMaine Extension’s role in MOFGA founding

The Portland Press Herald noted that the late Charlie Gould, a former University of Maine Cooperative Extension agent for Sagadahoc and Androscoggin counties, helped form the Maine Organic Farmers and Growers Association (MOFGA) in a story about its 50-year legacy. According to the report, which was shared by Centralmaine.com, Gould hosted a meeting on Aug. 12, 1971 in Brunswick to provide guidance for organic farming and gardening, which led to the creation of MOFGA. Scott and Helen Nearing, leaders of the back-to-the-land movement, participated in the meeting as guest speakers.
