Maine Day returns April 28

Maine Day will return April 28 with several spring clean-up activities and entertainment for University of Maine community members, all following health and safety guidelines. 

Students, faculty and staff interested in participating in community services projects can fill out the online survey. Check-in for volunteering will be held at 9 a.m. at the Memorial Union. Service projects will take place on campus, in Orono, Old Town, and Bangor.

Grab-and-go Maine Day barbecue will be available from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. at multiple campus locations for students, faculty and staff.

Hilltop Dining will serve students from Somerset, Oxford, Gannett, Androscoggin and Cumberland Halls and DTAV/Patch. York Dining will serve residents of York, Kennebec, Aroostook, Balentine, Colvin, Estabrooke, Stodder and Penobscot Halls.
Residents of Hart, Hancock and Oak Halls, off-campus students and faculty and staff will be served by the Bear’s Den outside on the Hauck patio. 

UMaine Dining hours have been adjusted to accommodate the Maine Day lunch schedule. Hilltop Dining and York Dining Halls will be closed for lunch only on Wednesday; the Bear’s Den will close at 9:30 a.m. Regular hours of operation will resume at all campus dining locations for dinner on April 28. 

There will be socially distanced lawn games in the afternoon with music and grab-and-go snacks from 1–4 p.m. 

The day will conclude with the Black Bear Bash from 6–9 p.m. Activities

include socially distanced soccer darts, blacklight mini-golf, virtual reality games and more. Locations will vary across campus, all will have a 45-participant capacity. University of Maine Student Government will provide a grab-and-go dinner via numerous food trucks scattered throughout campus.

President Arthur Hauck inaugurated Maine Day in 1935. It is traditionally held on the last regular Wednesday of the spring semester. To allow students to participate, classes are canceled, with the exception of classes and labs that meet once per week.
