Garland speaks with BDN about preparing raised garden bed for winter
The Bangor Daily News spoke with Kate Garland, a horticultural professional with the University of Maine Cooperative Extension, for an article about how to prepare a raised garden bed for winter. Throughout autumn, gardeners with raised beds should take several steps to ensure their garden beds are ready for next year’s seeds and seedling transplants, according to the article. “It’s an ongoing project,” Garland said. “I just always think of it as a to-do list for the fall.” Steps recommended by Garland include removing weeds, cleaning up dead plants, adding compost and other organic material, planting cover crops or adding mulch, taking care of perennials, and adding season extenders.
