Preserve beans, strawberry jam, tomatoes with UMaine Extension

Preserving the garden’s harvest is the focus of three hands-on workshops this summer with University of Maine Cooperative Extension in Somerset County. All workshops will be held 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the UMaine Extension office, 7 County Drive, Skowhegan.

Workshop dates and items to be preserved are:

  • June 27 — Strawberry jam; register online  
  • July 24 — Green beans; register online
  • Aug. 28 — Salsa and stewed tomatoes; register online

Each workshop will demonstrate basic steps for safely canning and freezing fresh produce using the latest USDA recommendations.

The $10 fee per workshop includes produce and a sample jar to take home; participants should bring a potholder. Enrollment is limited to 12, with a minimum of eight required.
